Georgian railwaymen demand higher wages
The trade union of Georgian railwaymen has called for a 1.5-fold wage increase, otherwise threatening a mass strike. The "Georgian Railways" have treated the workers' demands as unjustified.
On August 4, the members of the "New Professional Union of Georgian Railwaymen" announced a strike demanding to increase their wages by 50 percent.
The petition for the upcoming strike has already been signed by 4800 people, Ilya Lezhava, a deputy chair of the union, said on air of the "Rustavi-2" TV Company.
According to his story, on August 10, a decision will be made on the starting date of the strike, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
"Railwaymen may already start their strike, since they had warned their bosses more than 21 days ago, as required by the law," Vitaly Giorgadze, the chairman of the "New Professional Union of Georgian Railwaymen", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The bosses of the "Georgian Railways" have treated the workers' demand to increase wages as unjustified and called the discussion thereof a "populist topic."
