Volgograd: activists plant trees in protest against construction near university

Graduates of the Volgograd State University (VolSU) and local residents have opposed the construction of a children's hospital near the university, and laid out a park in this place.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 13, 2019, Volgograd activists held three solo pickets against plans to build a regional children's hospital in the territory adjacent to the VolSU. The hospital needs to be built in an ecologically clean place, but near the university a park should be started, said the picketers.

On August 2, graduates of the VolSU, together with residents of the Sovietsky District of Volgograd, laid out a park in the territory located between the university and University Avenue. 33 activists planted 41 seedlings, as reported by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, who was present at the event.

The action is held at the initiative of partial citizens at their expense, Igor Antropov, a lawyer and a VolSU graduate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Should the authorities support the good undertaking, by common efforts we'll create a resting place for the entire million-strong city," said Mr Antropov.
