Woman detained for desecrating Armenian soldiers' graves released
The female resident of Yerevan, suspected of vandalism at a military cemetery, has been set free under recognizance not to leave.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 1, a woman from Yerevan was detained as a suspect of desecrating graves at the "Erablur" military cemetery, where soldiers and officers who perished in the April 2016 exacerbation of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict were buried. The police have informed that the woman said that she had sprayed molten candles onto gravestones "to remove the damnation" and had done this at several military burials. Social network users called for punishing the cemetery vandalism as severe as possible, treating it as a matter of national importance.
The detained 51-year-old Yerevan woman was taken to Ashtarak police station. After her explanations, she was released under recognizance not to leave, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by the Armenian Police today.
Earlier, on August 1, activists of the Youth Union of the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun" suggested the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to start round-the-clock duty in the territory of the "Erablur" military cemetery, the Armenian edition "Panorama" has reported.
