Kadyrov's regiment commander replaced after publication about torture in Chechnya
In Chechnya, commanders of the patrol-and-post service regiment were replaced after human rights defenders had mentioned the unit in connection with beatings of detainees. The appointment of Zamid Chalaev from the Ramzan Kadyrov's teip (family clan) as a commander of the regiment is not related to the publication of the information about torture, believe law enforcers interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot".
38-year-old Police Lieutenant Colonel Zamid Chalaev became the new commander of the police patrol-and-post service regiment named after Akhmat Kadyrov, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by the spokesman for the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for Chechnya.
Some local residents drew attention to the fact that the commander of the police patrol-and-post service regiment was replaced after the building of the unit was mentioned in the reports of the witnesses about the detentions of Chechen residents from the "execution list" voiced on July 23.
The appointments of Iraskhanov and Chalaev are not related to the reports of the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta" and the human rights defenders, believes Sergey Goncharov, the president of the International Association of Veterans of the "Alpha" Anti-Terrorist Division. "I observe the activities of Ramzan Kadyrov and I think that he very rarely reacts to attacks of the media and their criticism. [...] This is just a replacement of one law enforcer by another," Sergey Goncharov explained to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
