Azerbaijani law enforcers ban commemoration of oppositionist Faradjov
Policemen have explained the ban by the fear that a commemoration of Elnur Faradjov, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), may have a political nature.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 24, 2018, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev signed a pardon of 634 convicts. Among those released was Elnur Faradjov, a PFPA activist. He had been sick for months in prison; and then it turned out that he had lung cancer, rights defenders reported.
On August 9, 2018, the seriously ill Faradjov died from his oncologic disease, the "Contact.az" informed.
In the Neftchala District, the police prohibited mass commemoration of the deceased PFPA activist, Elnur Faradjov, the "Turan" News Agency reported on July 30.
Elnur's parents had planned to invite people on July 30 to mark his birthday. However, on July 29, his father, Gusein Faradjov, was summoned to the district police station and told that only family members could visit the grave of the deceased.
The police explained the ban by the fact that the event may be political in nature, the "Turan" reports with reference to a PFPA source.
