Azerbaijan claims sniper shelling in conflict zone

Within the last 24 hours, positions of the Azerbaijani troops in the Karabakh conflict zone were shelled for 18 times, including from machine guns and sniper rifles, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) has reported.

Earlier, on July 22, the MoD reported 16 shelling attacks on its positions, including from large-calibre machine guns and sniper rifles.

After the June 20 meeting of officials of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (MFAs) of Armenia and Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani MoD has daily reported about a calm situation in the conflict zone. However, since July 17, when, according to Azerbaijan, a soldier, Djeikhun Bairamov, perished on the troops contact line, shelling attacks are being recorded on the daily basis again.

The website of the Azerbaijani MoD reports that shelling was carried out from the territory of Armenia and "from near the occupied villages."
