HRC asks ICFR and GPO to supervise the case of Dagestani journalist Gadjiev

By violating the rights of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the "Chernovik" weekly, law enforcers are undermining the confidence of the population of Northern Caucasus in the authorities, the Human Rights Council (HRC) under the Russian president has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the editor of the religion section of the Dagestani edition "Chernovik" (Draft) is kept in custody since June 18, 2019. On July 3, the Dagestani Supreme Court refused to transfer the journalist to house arrest. Under various pretexts, authorities refused to sanction any of the applied actions in support of Gadjiev, organizers thereof have stated.

Magdi Kamalov, the founder of the "Chernovik" has stated at a meeting with the head of Dagestan, Vladimir Vasiliev, and the heads of the local branches of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) and the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) that pressure is exerted on his edition.

"What power structures are doing with Gadjiev is a bad interpretation of the concepts of 'law', 'legislation' and 'justice' for the population of Northern Caucasus," says the letter of the head of the HRC.

  • Pre-planned nature is distinctive feature of attack on journalist Khoroshilov

The actions of the man who attacked Igor Khoroshilov, a Rostov journalist, were prepared in advance, which excludes any spontaneous conflict. At the same time, the absence of direct proofs of links of the attack with Igor’s professional activities will allow law enforcers to treat the incident as a domestic conflict, lawyers have pointed out.
