Concessions of "Georgian Dream" fail to satisfy protesters

Protesters found the resignation of Irakli Kobakhidze, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament that followed after the dispersal of the June 2 action, to be inadequate. The protesters' demands to dismiss the Interior Minister Giorgi Gakhariya, change in the parliamentary electoral system, release all the detained activists and punish the involved law enforcers remain unfulfilled.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Georgia, protest actions are being held daily starting from June 20.

The protesters have already succeeded in achieving the resignation of Georgian Parliament Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze. In the evening on June 22, protesters voiced three more demands to the authorities: the release of the detainees, the resignation of Interior Minister Giorgi Gakhariya, and the holding of parliamentary elections under a proportional system.

The protest action that started in the evening on June 24 in front of the parliament building, ended at midnight, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports. As stated by the organizers, the action will resume on June 25 at 7 p.m. Protesters said they would protest until Giorgi Gakhariya resigned.

"The issue of Gakhariya's [resignation] is even more important than the elections. What happened here at night on June 21, when several young people lost their eyes, many people were wounded, and 300 people were arrested – all this demands political responsibility. And this is Gakhariya's direct responsibility, because he personally gave orders," Nikoloz Tatiashvili, a lecturer at the Theatrical Institute, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

David Darchiashvili, an activist of the "European Georgia" Party, believes that the rallies are likely to become endless, since not a single issue raised at rallies has been legally resolved yet.
