Analysts doubt whether reburial of Hadji Murad's remains is in line with Sharia

The ceremony of reburial of the remains of Khadji Murad, held in the village of Khunzakh on June 2, was not in line with the Sharia law, Khadjimurad Donogo, a historian, and Ziyavudin Uvaisov, a lawyer, have stated. Good grounds are needed for such a ceremony, said Imam Akhmad Anchikhsky.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 30, Magomed Amirkhanov, the chairman of the organizing committee for the burial of Naib's remains, said that the reburial ceremony for the remains of Hadji Murad was scheduled for June 2 in the Dagestani village of Khunzakh. On May 31, authorities in the Khunzakh District called this information a fake. However, photos and videos of the reburial ceremony in Khunzakh appeared in mass media. Patimat Takhnaeva, a historian, has suggested that the remains of not Hadji Murad, but of his supporter, who perished with him, were reburied.

Hadji Murad, a participant of the liberation struggle of Caucasian mountaineers, was killed in Chechnya in 1852. After the death, his head was cut off by an unknown person.

Imam Akhmad Anchikhsky has pointed out that, according to the Sharia law, for reburial of someone's remains, weighty reasons are needed – when a person is buried not in a cemetery, not according to Muslim customs, but somewhere on the road or not in a Muslim country.

According to his story, the majority of residents of Dagestan are not interested in the reburial of Hadji Murad's remains.

Khadjimurad Donogo, a historian, believes that the reburial has caused public discontent. "People ask why the reburial was held in secret and how the remains were transported across the border ... It is not yet clear what it gives to Dagestanis; probably, only new problems associated with the burial of Hadji Murad's skull," he has stated.
