Armenian ex-president Robert Kocharyan reports about dispersal of protests in 2008
The police dispersed the protest actions in March 2008, since the special services reported that protestors were taking up arms, reported Robert Kocharyan, the second president of Armenia.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, the court has dismissed the motion filed by Robert Kocharyan's advocates concerning the disqualification of the judge. Supporters and opponents of the former president of Armenia have gathered in front of the court building.
On February 16, Robert Kocharyan was charged in a case on a clash between law enforcers and participants of the opposition protest action held on March 1-2, 2008.
Robert Kocharyan pointed out that while dispersing the protesters, the police followed instructions from a letter received from the National Security Service.
Kocharyan's advocates claimed that the 2008 rally was not peaceful. According to the advocates, the organizers of the protest action "were prejudicing their supporters against the police and the authorities and urged them to take arms and to use everything they had on hand to injure policemen."
Bako Saakyan and Arkady Gukasyan, the current and former presidents of Nagorno-Karabakh, respectively, asked the court to release Robert Kocharyan under their guarantees.
