Armenian communists demand changes after "velvet" revolution

After the "velvet" revolution, Armenia has changed power, but not the economic model, the first secretary of the Communist Party of Armenia stated at the May 1 rally. It is necessary to revise the floor salary, said the chair of the trade union man of bodies of local self-government.

On May 1, Yerevan hosted two marches, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports. The action, organized by the Communist Party of Armenia, according to organizers, was attended by about 200 people.

The "velvet" revolution resulted in no systemic changes, said Erdjanik Gazaryan, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Armenia.

"The revolution is intended to change the system, but predatory capitalism and a liberal market economy have been preserved in Armenia," he said.

Mr Gazaryan believes that the new government must think about the development of industry and the creation of new jobs. According to his version, a third of the population lives below the poverty line.

A march was also organized by the Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia. Anayit Asatryan, the leader of the above trade union, spoke about workers' problems, in particular, about the very low minimum wages.

On May 1, the holiday of spring and Labour Day, other marchers of Southern Russia also complained about low wages, unemployment and hard working conditions.
