Over 2300 take part in torchlight march in Stepanakert (+video)

More than 2300 residents of Stepanakert have participated in the traditional torchlight march in memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire. Apart from torches and candles, the marchers carried flags of the countries, which have recognized the Armenian Genocide.

Every year, on April 24, residents of Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh and members of Armenian Diasporas all over the world mark the Remembrance Day of the Victims of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire in 1915-1923.

The march was attended by activists of all youth organizations, higher and secondary schools of Stepanakert. Ordinary townspeople have also joined the march, the organizers have reported.

The traditional torchlight march in memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire began in Stepanakert on April 23 at 8:00 p.m. local time. The starting point of the march was the Saint Akop Church, where the memorial service for the innocent victims of the genocide was held. Then, the marchers moved along the central avenue of Stepanakert to the memorial complex, so that there, at the monument-bell tower, lay flowers and light candles, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The posters held by the marchers read "We remember and demand", "We demand to recognize and condemn the 1915 genocide", "Recognize and sue" and "Criminals must respond". While appealing to the international community, the participants of the march were chanting "Recognize and condemn". People carried torches and candles, as well as flags of the countries and organizations, which have recognized the Armenian Genocide.
