Verdict to the head of International Bank of Azerbaijan upheld

The Supreme Court (SC) has refused to satisfy the complaint lodged against the sentence of Djakhangir Gadjiev, a former head of the International Bank of Azerbaijan, sentenced to 15 years in prison for a large theft.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Gadjiev was sentenced in October 2016, after he was found guilty of stealing more than 211 million manats from the bank.

The International Bank of Azerbaijan is the largest bank in Southern Caucasus.

According to investigators, in 2001-2015, as a result of frauds, 4.7 billion manats were stolen from the International Bank of Azerbaijan, which was headed by Gadjiev.

Djakhangir Gadjiev has stated declared his innocence to the court. His wife Zamira, who lives in the United Kingdom, is accused of misappropriation of funds there. Her purchases at a department store and acquisition of expensive real estate have attracted investigators' attention.
