Advocate demands to investigate Bairam Mamedov's torture statement
The defence of Bairam Mamedov, the arrested activist of the "Nida" movement, has asked law enforcement bodies to investigate his allegations of torture. The human rights organization Amnesty International (AI) has expressed its protest against Mamedov's arrest.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Mamedov was detained in Baku on March 30 and arrested for 30 days under the article "Disobeying a policeman". On April 2, the appeals court upheld his arrest.
Khadija Ismayilova, a journalist, has posted on the Facebook a copy of the torture testimony, signed by Bairam Mamedov.
"They beat me up with fists and legs, including in the face, for 30-40 minutes. Then, they roped up my legs. I lay with my hands and legs roped for two or three hours," the testimony states.
"Torture is becoming a commonplace ... Authorities wouldn't hear local activists' appeals; therefore, voices of international organizations should sound loudly," said Ogtai Gyulyalyev, the head of the Centre for the Defence of Political Prisoners.
The AI has demanded to release Mamedov, the "Turan" agency reports.
Earlier, on April 3, Giyas Ibragimov, another "Nida" activist, was summoned to the Baku police because of the post on the Facebook in support of Mamedov.
