Mourning events for victims of April War held in NKR

The participants of the commemoration of those killed during the April 2016 war in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) laid flowers to the warriors' monuments; and memorial lessons were held in the educational establishments of the unrecognized republic.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 2-5, 2016, the Karabakh conflict got aggravated, after which the parties announced a ceasefire. However, the shelling in the conflict zone did not stop.

According to the Ministries of Defence (MoDs) of Azerbaijan and the NKR, during the period from March 31, 2017, to April 1, 2018, 43 persons were killed in the conflict zone: 41 military servicemen and two civilians.

Today, students and NGO activists in Stepanakert and districts plan to visit 29 graves of the dead and lay flowers together with families thereof, the NKR's Ministry of Culture, Youth and Tourism has announced.

"Exactly three years ago, by grossly violating the truce regime of May 12, 1994, Azerbaijan launched warfare," the NKR's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has stated.

The MFA treats the April events as "a planned military aggression."

"The four-day war obliges us to be grateful to those who ensure our security, and to support the casualties' families," said Artak Beglaryan, the NKR's Ombudsman.

"I think this short war was a stimulus for political changes in Armenia," Tigran Grigoryan, a political analyst, believes.
