Advocate complains of being not allowed to visit Azerbaijani activist Bairam Mamedov

Advocate Elchin Sadygov complained that the prison administration did not allow him to visit Bairam Mamedov, an arrested member of the movement "Nida".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 30, Bairam Mamedov was detained in Baku when he was walking along the street together with his father. The young man was found guilty of failure to obey to the lawful demands of a policeman and arrested for 30 days.

In October 2016, Bairam Mamedov and Giyas Ibragimov were sentenced to ten years of imprisonment on the charges of drug trafficking. The activists treated the verdict as revenge for graffiti on the pedestal of the monument to Heydar Aliev in the form of inscriptions reading: "Qul bayramınız mübarək!" (Congratulations on the holiday of slaves!) and "F ... k the system!". On March 16, the President of Azerbaijan pardoned both activists.

The advocate also reported that he was not able to appeal against the activist's arrest, since he was not provided by a copy of the decision on the arrest in court.

Samir Asadli, a coordinator of the movement "Nida", expressed his concern over a ban for the advocate on visits to Bairam Mamedov. "They can exert physical pressure on Bairam and therefore hide him from the advocate," Samir Asadli suggested.
