Protesters leave square in Magas

Residents of Ingushetia stopped their protest action after the authorities had promised to sanction a new rally in five days.

This morning, law enforcers have made two attempts to disperse protesters in a square in Magas, reports human rights defender Magomed Mutsolgov.

Yesterday, on March 26, a rally against the law on referendum resulted in a protest action demanding the resignation of Ingush leader Yunus-Bek Evkurov. The rally was sanctioned for one day, but some of the protesters stayed in the square till the morning.

The protesters decided to leave the place after the authorities had promised to sanction a new action in five days, Magomed Mutsolgov reported in his blog on the "Caucasian Knot".

"The authorities informed the protesters that they would sanction a new action, which could be held at the same place in five days. Most of the protesters lined up in a column and headed towards the federal highway. People go home and are ready to return after the beginning of another protest, which the authorities had promised to sanction," Magomed Mutsolgov wrote.

During the night and morning, the police made three attempts to disperse the protesters, the human rights defender reported. "Law enforcers still continue to stand in the cordon," Magomed Mutsolgov reported at 8:51 a.m. Moscow time.
