Prosecutor asks four years of colony for Titiev

Today, during the debates, the state prosecutor asked the court to find Oyub Titiev, the head of the Grozny office of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", guilty of drug possession, and sentence him to imprisonment and a fine.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 21, the judicial investigation into Titiev's case was over at the Shali City Court.

Oyub Titiev's guilt of possessing marijuana was proved at the trial during a "careful examination of witnesses' testimonies of and material exhibits," the state prosecutor has stated today.

He demanded to sentence Titiev to real deprivation of liberty. Given the mitigating circumstances, namely, the absence of criminal record, positive characteristics and age, the state prosecutor asked the court to sentence him to four years in prison and a fine of 100,000 roubles, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has reported from the courtroom.

Today, the courtroom was packed, the press service of the HRC "Memorial" reports. The court session was attended by employees of the HRC "Memorial", the Human Rights Watch, the "Civil Assistance", the Moscow Helsinki Group, the "Public Verdict", the FIDH (International Human Rights Federation), the "Centre for the Development of Democracy and Human Rights", as well as Titiev's relatives and journalists, the Telegram channel of the HRC "Memorial" reports.
