Azerbaijani activist Guseinov arrested for 30 days

Rafael Guseinov was again placed under administrative arrest in the Apsheron District just four days after his release, his father has reported, adding that the police failed to explain the reason for his son's new arrest.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 25, 2019, Rafael Guseinzade was detained in central of Baku during a picket in defence of political prisoners. He was arrested for 30 days for disobeying a policeman's legitimate demands.

During his picket, Rafael Guseinzade held a poster reading: "Freedom for political prisoners!" and "Down with Ilham!" and containing a photo of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev with the inscription "Dictator" above the photo.

The young man was released on February 24, his father, Fizuli Guseinov, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), said. "Four days later, on February 28, by the evening, three people in civilian clothes came to our home; one of them introduced himself as an operative agent of the police station in the village of Mekhtiabad. They said they should 'talk' with Rafael. But he wasn’t home," Fizuli Guseinov said.

"An hour later, Rafael returned home. When he heard that he was asked by the police, he decided to go to the station in Mekhtiabad. We first expected him to come back on February 28, but he didn't come," Guseinov father said today.

According to his story, having arrived at the police station, he learned about the next arrest of his son. "I first went to the police station in the village of Mekhtiabad. They said that back on February 28, Rafael was sent to the Apsheron district police office. There, they told me that they had administratively detained Rafael for 30 days; they didn't specify the reason for the arrest," Fuzuli Guseinov has reported.
