Azerbaijani rights defenders add 127 names to list of political prisoners

A working group of Azerbaijani rights defenders, NGO activists, and lawyers made public an updated list of political prisoners which included 127 names. Cases of other 54 prisoners are being monitored.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the previous version of the list, published on September 1, included the names of 128 political prisoners.

Intigam Aliev, the head of the NGO "Legal Enlightenment Society", noted that four persons from the previous list had been released from prisons.

"After September 1, 2018, believers Mikail Idrisov and Emil Mokhbalyev sentenced in the Said Dadashbeili's case, as well as Mamed Ibragim, the adviser to the head of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), and activist Telman Shiraliev, were released," Intigam Aliev said.

The list of political prisoners includes Emin Shagiev, a relative of opposition journalist Turkel Azertyurk, as well as Azad Gasanov and Abulfaz Sadygbeili, members of the "Musavat" Party.

The largest group ("activists-believers") consists of 67 names, including Talekh Bagirzade, the leader of the movement "Muslim Unity", who was sentenced in the case on the Nardaran events.

Let us remind you that on December 6, 2018, the Union "For Freedom of Political Prisoners of Azerbaijan" announced its list of political prisoners, which included 150 people.
