Rebel surrenders in Chechnya

A member of illegal armed groups gave himself up to Chechen law enforcement agencies.

Ruslan Yedayev, resident in the Achkhoi-Martan district, was a member of the group commanded by Isa Muskhajiyev, Chechnya's Internal Affairs Ministry told Interfax. The group leader was destroyed in a special operation in the Yandy village in 2002.

The rebel confessed to taking part in the attack on the military commandant's office and the house of the head of administration in Shalazhi.

Meanwhile, Interfax also quotes the Internal Affairs Ministry's Department for the South federal district as saying that a 23-year-old rebel from the same group of Muskhajiyev was detained at the Michurinsk railway station in the Tambov region. He was going on a train from Voronezh to Moscow.

An investigation is running to find out why the rebel was going to the capital.
