17 persons detained in Georgia for spreading video of MP's intimate life

The Georgia's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has detained 17 people on charges of storing and mass dissemination on the Internet of video records that violate the privacy.

The video of the intimate life of Ekaterina Beseliya, an MP from the ruling "Georgian Dream-Democratic Movement" Party, was spread online after her open speech against the compiled list of candidates for Supreme Court Judges. The MIA has opened a criminal case on the encroachment of the personal privacy.

The Department of Central Criminal Police of the Georgia's MIA is conducting an inquiry of the distribution of the video; 17 persons were detained in the course of operative-investigative actions. Investigators have found that the detainees had stored and spread video records, the MIA has informed in a statement received by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The MIA has reminded that the illegal obtaining, storage and dissemination of such materials is a criminal offense, punishable by imprisonment for 4-8 years.

The records were spread by much more persons than reported by the MIA; and the police should establish the customer, said Ekaterina Beseliya, the MP in question.
