Relatives of the woman killed in Gyumri complain to prosecutor about refusal to place the military into Armenian SIZO

Investigators have rejected the demand of relatives of Julietta Gukasyan to transfer the Russian military, accused of killing her, from the territory of the military base to the SIZO (pre-trial prison) of Armenia. On January 17, the refusal was appealed against to the prosecutor's office, Arthur Sakunts, a rights defender, has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Armenia handed the accused over to the Russian party; and he is kept under arrest in the 102nd Russian military base. Asmik Gukasyan, a daughter of the murdered woman, has stated that the detainee should be handed over to the Armenian party.

The General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Armenia has explained the transfer of the serviceman accused of committing the murder to the Russian party by the need to follow the Russia laws, and by the agreement on the 102nd military base in Gyumri.

On December 29, investigators rejected the victims' motion demanding to transfer the military to an Armenian prison, Arthur Sakunts, the head of the Vanadzor office of the Helsinki Civil Assembly, has reported. In his opinion, the transfer of the accused to the penitentiary institution of Armenia could ensure an objective investigation.
