"Novaya Gazeta" reports about resumed persecution of gays in Chechnya

In Chechnya, the persecution of LGBT community members has been resumed amid warnings disseminated through social networks, the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta" reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in April 2017, the "Novaya Gazeta" reported about mass detentions and murders in Chechnya of men suspected of non-traditional sexual orientation, as well as about a secret prison for gays in Argun. Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov called the materials reported by the newspaper a provocation. However, the OSCE report mentioned the persecution of gay men in Chechnya as indisputable facts.

The "Novaya Gazeta" reported about resumption of persecution of gays in Chechnya and referred to its sources and the information got from the "Russian LGBT Network".

Meanwhile, a number of public groups on social networks disseminated warnings stating that members of the LGBT community should leave the republic as soon as possible.
