Major fire occurs in marketplace in Pyatigorsk

Today, a large pavilion has burned down at the Upper Marketplace in Pyatigorsk. There were no victims. According to eyewitnesses, the fire-fighting teams could not drive to the venue because of concrete blocks.

Information about the fire in the fish pavilion in the Upper Marketplace of Pyatigorsk was received by the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) today at 9:38 a.m. Moscow time. The wooden roof of a single-story brick building caught fire in the area of 960 square meters.

Fire-fighter managed to localize the fire at 10:07 a.m. Moscow time; and at 11:03 a.m. Moscow time the fire was extinguished, after which the rescuers began disassembling the pavilion and spill water, in order to prevent re-ignition. The wooden roof has collapsed over the whole area of the fire.

No evacuation of people was undertaken; there are no casualties and victims, says the website of the Chief Department for the Stavropol Territory of the Russian MfE.

Eyewitnesses filmed the fire, explaining that the building of the gastro-marketplace named "Cuisines of the World" has burnt down. One of these videos is posted on the "SlimMinor" YouTube channel. It shows the roof of a large pavilion on fire; and black columns of smoke rise from the fire into the sky.
