Picket held by father of shepherds killed in Dagestan ends in talks with authorities about rally

On Wednesday, December 12, in Makhachkala, Murtazali Gasanguseinov went out to a picket aiming to draw attention to his sons' murder case. It ended with a reception at the Mayoralty, where an official of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) explained how to correctly apply for a rally.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the parents of the killed shepherds managed to achieve the transfer of the murder case to the central office of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF). On October 1, more than 300 people came to support the Gasanguseinovs. In their turn, the authorities of Dagestan did not agree to sanction a rally in support of the parents of the murdered shepherds, scheduled for October 14 in Makhachkala.

On August 23, 2016, the 17-year-old and 19-year-old sons of Murtazali Gasanguseinov from the village of Goor-Khindakh were killed in the Shamil District. Law enforcers declared that the brothers were militants; however, the brothers' fellow villagers insisted that they had nothing to do with militants.

Murtazali Gasanguseinov held a solo picket, having stood for half an hour outside the government building of Dagestan with a photo of his sons with the inscription "Gasanguseinov brothers, we remember about you".

He has noted that more than a month had passed, but the investigation had no progress.

He has added that one of the aims of his picket was the intention to receive a sanction for a rally demanding a fair investigation into his sons' murder.
