In the 4th quarter of 2017, five persons fell victim to armed conflict in Chechnya

In the period from October 1 to December 31, 2017, in Chechnya, at least five persons fell victim to the armed conflict. Of them two persons were killed and three others were wounded. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The killed people were suspected militants, while all the wounded were law enforcers.

In October of 2017, victims to the armed conflict were registered in the republic. All incidents with victims occurred in November 2017. As a result of an explosion of, presumably, a grenade on a wire, which occurred on November 1, two law enforcers were injured, when they were engaged in inspecting a dugout arranged by militants in a forest near the village of Yandi in the Achkhoi-Martan District. On November 19, two suspected members of the armed underground were killed in an attack on a police checkpoint near the village of Roshni-Chu in the Urus-Martan District. In December of 2017, no victims to the armed conflict were registered in the republic.

In the first quarter of 2017, according to the "Caucasian Knot", in the Chechen Republic, 36 people fell victim to the armed conflict. Of them, 28 were killed and 8 others were wounded, including 11 killed and 6 wounded law enforcers, 17 killed militants and 2 wounded civilians. According to the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta", in the first quarter of 2017, 27 more people fell victim to the armed conflict in Chechnya: on July 9, 2017, the newspaper reported that at night on January 26, at least 27 people were executed in the republic, who were detained in connection with an attack on the police in Grozny in December 2016. Meanwhile, the "Caucasian Knot" included two people from the list prepared by the "Novaya Gazeta" to the number of victims to the conflict (killed militants) in 2016. Thus, it can be assumed that in total, in the first quarter of 2017, in Chechnya, 61 people fell victim to the armed conflict. Of them, 53 were killed and 8 were wounded, including 11 killed and 6 wounded law enforcers, 17 killed militants, and 25 killed and 2 wounded civilians (25 people from the list prepared by the "Novaya Gazeta" were categorized as civilians, since there was no evidence that those people were involved in the activities of militants).

In the second quarter of 2017, in Chechnya, at least three persons, all law enforcers, fell victim to the armed conflict. Of them, two were killed and one was wounded. In the third quarter of 2017, in Chechnya, at least six people fell victim to the armed conflict. Of them, two were killed and four others were wounded. The number of the killed people included a suspected militant and a civilian, and all wounded people were law enforcers.

The provided statistics cannot reflect the number of victims with the 100 percent accuracy. Not all information is included in the news reports. It is not always possible to check the reliability of the statements voiced by the law enforcement bodies. Besides, new facts about the events of the reporting period become sometimes known after the statistics had been already published on the "Caucasian Knot".

In the fourth quarter of 2016, at least 28 people fell victim to the armed conflict in the republic. Of them, 23 were killed and 5 others were wounded. The death toll included 18 suspected militants and 5 law enforcers. The wounded people were law enforcers. In total, in 2016, in Chechnya, at least 43 people fell victim to the ongoing armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, at least 27 were killed and 16 others were wounded.

In 2015, in Chechnya, at least 30 people fell victim to the ongoing armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, at least 14 were killed and 16 were wounded. In 2014, in the Chechen Republic, at least 117 people fell victim to the conflict. Of them, at least 52 were killed and 65 others were wounded.

In 2013, in the republic, at least 101 people fell victim to the armed conflict. Of them, at least 39 were killed and 62 others were wounded. In 2012, in Chechnya, 174 people fell victim to the armed conflict. Of them, 82 were killed and 92 others were injured. In 2011, in Chechnya, at least 201 people fell victim to the armed conflict. Of them, at least 95 people were killed and 106 others were wounded.
