Makhachkala: townspeople hold mass festivities to mark Nurmagomedov's victory

After the victory of the Russian UFC (Ultimate Fight Championship) fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov over the Irish MMA fighter Conor McGregor, hundreds of people went out into the streets of Makhachkala to celebrate the victory of their countryman, who managed to defend his champion's title. They blocked traffic at one of the main intersections of the city.

On October 7, at the UFC 229 tournament in Las Vegas, the Dagestani fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated the Irishman Conor McGregor in four rounds and maintained his champion's belt in lightweight category.

The broadcast of the fight gathered full hall in the "Rossiya" movie theatre in Makhachkala; and after the fight, hundreds of people went out into the streets to celebrate their countryman's triumph.

They blocked traffic at the intersection of Imam Shamil Avenue and Magomed Yaragsky Street. Dozens of people grouped together and danced lezginka. Traffic in both streets was stopped. Drivers left their cars there and joined the celebration of the Dagestani fighter's victory, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Policemen arrived, and not using force, began persuading people to free the roadway. At about 9:30 a.m., the traffic was partially restored.

Let us remind you that immediately after the fight, Nurmagomedov, who jumped out of the octagon, provoked a fight among fans; therefore, the champion's belt was not awarded to him.
