French authorities arrest a Chechen native on charge of terrorism

An 18-year-old native of Chechnya is arrested on suspicion of plotting a terror act, the French media report. The Embassy of Russia is currenty verifying the information.

The young man was detained on suspicion of plotting a terror act and was arrested in Strasbourg on September 18.

The newspaper "Parisien" reported that the detainee was young man Abdul Malik Anaev. According to the newspaper, on September 24, in Paris, he was charged with participation in a criminal grouping with terrorist intentions, the Radio Liberty reported with reference to the newspaper "Parisien".

Earlier, his brother Abdul Khakim Anaev had been detained in another case on terrorism. It was reported that he contacted the criminal who committed a terror act in Paris and with whom he studied in the French region of Alsace, reported the website of the Radio Station "France Bleu" on September 26 in a message translated by the "Caucasian Knot".

On May 12, in Paris, a young man attacked passers-by with a knife. He killed one and wounded four other persons. The attacker, shot dead by policemen, was identified as Khamzat Azimov, a Chechen native. The responsibility for the terror act in Paris was claimed by the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS) banned in Russia by the court. The IS claimed Khamzat Azimov was its soldier.

According to the Radio Station "France Bleu", the detainee denies the accusations of plotting a terror act.
