Ingush activists bring Chechen border issue to public debate

The absence of reaction of republic's and federal authorities to the problem of the Chechen-Ingush border has forced Ingush public organizations to convoke a general civil forum on the republic's territorial integrity.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in late August the NGO "Support of Ingushetia" announced that some construction works began in Ingushetia by workers from Chechnya under the protection of Chechen law enforcers, and about an attempt to set up a road-and-patrol (DPS) post of the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) near the Ingush border village of Arshty. NGO activists then complained to the "Caucasian Knot" that Ingush authorities had left these actions of the Chechen side without public reaction.

On September 22, Magomed Mutsolgov, the head of the "Mashr" human rights organization, announced in his blog that he runs on the "Caucasian Knot" about the convocation of the general civil forum of Ingushetia.

According to Mr Mutsolgov, the unification of public organizations occurred "because in the created, rather critical and incomprehensible situation, we failed to receive any reaction from either local or federal authorities."

On September 24, a sitting of the organizing committee decided to hold a general civil forum on October 6. It will discuss the only issue – the preservation of the territorial integrity of Ingushetia, Angela Matieva, the head of the public movement "Support of Ingushetia", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
