Appeals to reconcile Kabardian and Balkar people provoke disputes in social networks

On September 20, the Day of Adygs was celebrated in Kabardino-Balkaria against the background of clashes in Kendelen. Some Kabardian users of social networks refused to consider it a holiday. In the Balkar environment, not all people agreed with the calls for reconciliation.

On September 18, residents of the village of Kendelen did not let participants of the equestrian procession organized in memory of the 310th anniversary of the Kanjali Battle to pass through the village. The refusal provoked clashes. Historians explained the conflict by a land dispute.

Not all people feel holiday emotions about the Day of Adygs. So, Facebook user Sanie Kyuschkhie wrote on her page that "the Kanjali Battle still went on."

By the day of the main celebrations, the "relatively calm atmosphere" established in Kabardino-Balkaria, and the people celebrated the holiday together, the "Region Online" reports.

Khusein Tumenov, an MMA (mixed martial arts) coach and a father of Albert Tumenov, the Russian champion in hand-to-hand combat, a Balkar by nationality, published a video message in his Instagram. He said he was going to slaughter a sheep in honour of the Day of Adygs and invited residents of the republic "of any nationality, especially Adygs," to share a meal with him.

"I appeal to all Balkars to do the same when possible. And let that become a good tradition between our peoples," said Khusein Tumenov.
