In Georgia, religious figures protest against marijuana legalization

Religious figures of the Georgian Orthodox Church held a protest against the legalization of marijuana use, as well as the initiative to allow the cultivation of cannabis for the production of cosmetics and medicines.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 30, the Constitutional Court of Georgia considered the claim filed by activists from the "Girchi" Party and recognized punishment for the use of marijuana as unjustified. Meanwhile, the law still provides for the punishment for the illegal use or possession of marijuana. On September 11, the Georgian government proposed to allow the cultivation of marijuana to produce pharmaceutical and cosmetic products for export.

Priests of the Georgian Orthodox Church held a service and read a prayer in front of the Tbilisi Sakrebulo (City Assembly) building, the "Sputnik-Georgia" reports.

"The legalization of cannabis will ruin our country. Our country will never be ready for that, and our people will not allow that," said one of the priests.
