MPs argue about legalization of marijuana growing in Georgia
The Government of Georgia has drafted a legislative initiative that allows cultivation of marijuana for pharmaceutical and cosmetic products for export. The appearance of the draft is premature, as it lobbies the interests of certain people, the experts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" believe.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 30 the Georgia's CC satisfied the claim of the "Girchi" Party activists and found administrative punishments for consuming marijuana unconstitutional.
The issue of legalizing marijuana production for exports was discussed on September 10 at the meeting of the "Georgian Dream" Party with the participation of Bidzina Ivanishvili, the "Rustavi-2" TV Company has reported.
Some party members were against marijuana cultivation and legalization of exports thereof.
"Today, we have an absolutely uncontrolled situation; and I consider this initiative as too early; I have questions related to risks, both internal and external," Mariam Djashma, an MP, said on air of the TV Channel.
This draft lobbies interests of a certain circle of people, Roman Gotseridze, the head of the faction of the United National Movement (UNM) at the Parliament, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
"Actually, in our conditions, no one will be able to control the spread of this drug. The production of marijuana may become one of the sources of this drug in Georgia. Of course, we'll not support this initiative," the MP has stressed.
