Chechen authorities disclose details of works on Ingush border

Chechen workers have asphalted about 4 kilometres of the road on the border with Ingushetia, the Chechen "Minavtodor" has reported, thus, confirming the information of Ingush activists about the works performed in the Sunzha District.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in late August, the NGO "Ingush Pillar" reported about the construction works performed in the Sunzha District of Ingushetia under the protection of Chechen law enforcers. According to the NGO, there was an attempt to install a DPS (road-and-patrol service) of the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) near the Ingush village of Arshty.

Chechnya decided not to escalate the conflict and "awaits the arrival of those responsible officials to be appointed by the plenipotentiary (for the North-Caucasian Federal District) to resolve the negotiation process," the "338" Telegram-public has reported.

Earlier, Alvi Karimov, the press secretary of the head of Chechnya, said that near the border they were restoring the road that was destroyed during the war, the Russian BBC Service reported. In his turn, Muslim Yandiev, the Minister for National Policy of Ingushetia, said that regional authorities are unaware why Chechen workers are building the road.

Magomed Mutsolgov, the head of the Ingush human rights organization "Mashr", believes that what happens in the Sunzha District is a provocation. He fears that the situation may get out of control, "if people come out to defend the borders of Ingushetia" against the background of authorities' inaction.
