Educational project "Under the Tree" to help children hook into Circassian culture
Kabardino-Balkaria has launched an educational project on the Circassian culture "Under the Tree", aimed at acquainting children with the richness of traditional Circassian culture, Professor Lydia Zhigunova from the Tulane University (USA), has stated.
Within the project, children get acquainted, by means of various creative activities, lectures, games and mother tongue, with Circassian culture and crafts. Many classes are held under trees in the city.
According to Lydia Zhigunova, the name of the project is associated with the cult of nature professed by Adygs.
The Adygs (Circassians) are the common name of the nations living in Russia and abroad and split into Kabardians, Circassians and Adygeis.
There are no similar projects in the curriculum that allow children to hook into their native culture, Timur Aloev, a History PhD, has noted.
In the opinion of Madina Khakuasheva, a Doctor of Philological Sciences, the absence in the republic of an attractive project to encourage children to study the Circassian language and culture is caused by the fact that officials have become hostages to the management system. She has noted that the activities within the project are very different from those at schools.
The project authors intend to make it international.
