Police officer wounded in Dagestan

One rebel was killed and one serviceman of the Internal Affairs Ministry's interior troops was wounded as a result of a combat in the Karabudakhkent district of Dagestan.

Special units of the 102nd brigade of the interior troops were conducting search and reconnaissance operations in the forest on the outskirts of Gubden where rebels involved in a series of attacks on police officers in the districts of Karabudakhkent, Buinaksk, and Kayakent might be hiding according to some reports. A VAZ-2106 came across one of the special troops' ambushes and the two men that were in the vehicle fired at the troops. As a result, one serviceman of the interior troops was wounded. One of the attackers also sustained a serious wound whereof he died later, while the other hid in the forest abandoning the car.

The village Gubden is considered highly religious in Dagestan. The ratio of believers per head there is higher than that of other settlements in the republic. According to the information that Caucasian Knot's correspondent received from republican law enforcement agencies, there are many reports that there are many supporters of Wahhabism among Gubden residents and "close attention" is therefore paid to this area.
