Armenian authorities promise help to 9000 settlers from Syria
Today, Yerevan hosted presentation of an assistance programme to settlers from Syria "Increasing resilience of Syrian Armenians and local residents to challenges". A three-year programme is designed to integrate settlers from Syria into the Armenian society and provide them with the conditions for a decent life, said Mkhitar Airapetyan, the Armenian Diaspora Minister.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Armenian Diaspora in Syria occurred in a difficult situation after an armed conflict began there. Since 2012, a mass outflow of Armenians from Syria to their historical homeland began. According to the Armenian authorities, in 2016, 18,000 Syrian Armenians received Armenian citizenship.
According to Mr Airapetyan, his Ministry is ready to use all the resources for the successful implementation of the above programme. "It consists of several components, in particular, an educational and a consultative ones; it is aimed to help more than 9000 most needy Syrian Armenians," the "Sputnik-Armenia" quotes him as saying.
The programme intends to improve access to the existing medical and social services for these 9000 Syrian Armenians; to improve housing conditions of about 300 families; expand economic opportunities of 200 entrepreneurs; and contribute to the integration of more than 3000 children into the Armenian society, the "News.am" reports.
