Enteric infection strikes 190 people

The Prosecutor's Office of the Khabez district, Karachay-Cherkess Republic, has opened a criminal case over an outbreak of acute enteric infections in the republic, Denis Kolosovskii, press secretary for the republican Prosecutor's Office, said. "The criminal case has been opened under Part 1, Article 236 of the Criminal Code 'Violation of sanitary and epidemiological standards,'" Mr Kolosovskii explained.

"One hundred and ninety sick people, including 140 children, have been revealed in the Khabez and Adyge-Khabl districts of Karachay-Cherkessia since late August," says Elena Pokrovskaia, press secretary for the Karachay-Cherkess Territorial Department of the Federal Service for Supervision in Consumer Rights Protection and the Welfare of Man. She added that the only source of infection could be drinking water, according to Interfax.
