S Ossetians, Georgians abduct each other

Officers of the Georgian Interior Ministry have set free two people abducted on Friday evening near Kurta, South Ossetia, according to the Ministry.

The abduction occurred when a group of unidentified people in masks carried out an armed attack on Russian peacekeepers, RIA Novosti reports.

The peacekeepers were escorting a vehicle with local residents. Two of them were abducted in the attack, according to Mamuka Kurashvili, a former commander of the peacekeeping battalion of Georgia in the conflict area.

He added that the abductors were relatives of four Georgians who, in turn, had been abducted in South Ossetia on 6 June and had since been missing.
