Three million rouble on stake at races in Cherkessk
The prize fund at equestrian races held in Cherkessk, the capital of Karachay-Cherkessia, dedicated to the Day of Russia, the 73rd anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the Uraza-Bayram holiday, amounted to 3 million roubles.
The races were held at the republic's hippodrome at six distances. The shortest one was 1000 meters, the longest – 2000 meters. More than 70 pedigree racing horses took part in the events.
In total, five winners were defined in the races in honour of the Day of Russia. For the second and third places, prizes were 250,000 125,000 roubles; while those who took the fourth and fifth places received 75,000 and 50,000 roubles, the TASS reports.
According to the organizing committee, races were also held in honour of Heroes of the Great Patriotic War, was veterans and workers of the rear during the war. Also, there were races dedicated to the Uraza-Bayram holiday and for the prize "Friendship of Peoples of Russia".
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this year's Uraza-Bayram – the holiday of stopping the fasting – is celebrated on June 15.
