Abkhazia introduces visa-free regime for foreigners for the time of FIFA World Cup
The visa-free regime is temporarily introduced in Abkhazia for foreign tourists in connection with the FIFA World Cup-2018 in Russia.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since April 1, 2016, Abkhazia introduced the visa regime for most countries. The exception was made only for citizens of those countries with which agreements on mutual visa-free travelling have been concluded. Such Abkhazian-Russian agreement has been in effect since 2009.
The Football World Cup will be held in Russia from June 14 to July 15. Matches will be hosted by three cities in Southern Russia – Sochi, Rostov-on-Don and Volgograd.
On June 13, Raul Khadjimba, the President of Abkhazia, signed a decree according to which from June 15 to August 1, 2018, the visa-free entry for foreign citizens entering the republic for tourist purposes is established, the website of the head of Abkhazia has reported.
It is specified that the regime does not apply to citizens of Georgia.
Let us remind you that Russia has recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. In its turn, Georgia regards South Ossetia and Abkhazia as its territories occupied by Russia.
