UNM's attempt to lead protest results in a split among activists

The "United National Movement" (UNM) Party has tried to become a leading force in the protest campaign that covered Georgia, but as a result, some protesters began to conduct opposite actions, noted Ramaz Sakvarelidze, a political analyst at the Independent Experts' Club.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that starting from May 31, Tbilisi hosts a protest action provoked by the unfair, according to the protestors, court decision in the case on the murder of two schoolchildren. On June 2, a father of one of the murdered schoolchildren called on all opposition political forces to unite for the "collapse of the entire system." On June 3, it became known that the protests in Tbilisi were supported by four parties, including the UNM.

Based on the demands of the protesters and the actions of the opposition, it can be concluded that they are trying to cross the line leading to the revolution, Ramaz Sakvarelidze believes.

"There is discontent with the authorities, but the discontent with the oppositional UNM is even stronger. The UNM demonstrated its interest and decided to lead the future revolution. As a result, a lot of people have got no desire take part in the protest action," Ramaz Sakvarelidze told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The political analyst drew attention to the fact that when the UNM joined the solidarity actions in support of the murdered schoolboy's father, some of the protesters left the common stream and in practice began to conduct their opposition actions.
