BCA dismisses appeals filed by ReAl activists

The court has dismissed appeals filed by two activists of the "Republican Alternative" Party (ReAl) about their administrative arrests.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the "Republican Alternative" Party (ReAl) complained of pressure after a rally held in Baku on May 28, when Azerbaijan celebrated the Day of the Republic. On May 29 and May 30, four activists of the "Republican Alternative" were arrested.

On June 4, the Baku Court of Appeal (BCA) examined complaints about the arrests of Azer Gasymly and Nariman Mudjakhid, the ReAl activists, who were sentenced to 30 days of administrative arrest on May 29 and May 30, respectively.

Elchin Sadygov defended the arrested activists at the court. According to him, the cases were considered separately and the complaints were dismissed. "Unfortunately, the proceedings were formal, and none of the defence motions was granted," Elchin Sadygov informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by phone.

The advocate called the decisions of the BCA on the activists' cases "not fair, unlawful and not justified".

Elchin Sadygov has also added that at the request of the arrested persons, the cases can be brought to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).
