Volgograd resident holds solo picket against Roskomnadzor
After a court's decision to ban Telegram, the "Roskomnadzor" (Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media) blocked a lot of IP addresses and that brought losses to Internet companies, stated an employee of a Volgograd web studio, who held a solo picket in the centre of Volgograd.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 6, the "Roskomnadzor" filed to the Tagansky Court of Moscow a lawsuit with a demand to block the Telegram messenger on the whole territory of Russia. Since mid-April, the "Roskomnadzor" unsuccessfully tried to block the Telegram messenger by blocking IP addresses, and that affected the operation of other services, messengers, social networks and online resources.
On May 25, in the centre of Volgograd, Vladislav Astafiev, an employee of a Volgograd web studio, held a solo picket against the mass blocking of IP addresses by the "Roskomnadzor", the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
According to Vladislav Astafiev, the company for which he works, faced problems due to the active blocking of IP addresses by the "Roskomnadzor".
"On April 20-21, due to the blocking of IP addresses, about 60 websites have 'dropped out,' including our information websites on different subjects, on the traffic of which we earn money." When an IP address 'drops out,' the traffic is catastrophically lost, and that means advertisers do not receive feedback and we do not get money," Vladislav Astafiev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
According to the picketer, his action is directed against the "Roskomnadzor" actions to restrict the online space. The Internet should be free space, Vladislav Astafiev believes.
