Three officers sentenced for fraud with food money of Gyumri servicemen
In Rostov-on-Don, the court sentenced two food service officers and the head of the Russian military base in Armenia to imprisonment. They are recognized to be involved in fraud for 471 million roubles allocated to provide food to soldiers and officers at the military base in Gyumri.
According to the Rostov Garrison Military Court, in the period from January 2012 to April 2013, Colonel Denis Zorin and Lieutenant-Colonel Roman Somonov violated the rules for collecting information to provide food to soldiers and officers of the Russian military base in Gyumri.
The Court found out that they agreed with Vladimir Firsov, the head of the military base, and did not check his reports on the number of soldiers and officers. As a result of the above, the additional amount of 471.6 million roubles was transferred from the federal budget to the accounts of food suppliers, the RBC reports today.
Denis Zorin was sentenced to 11 years, and Roman Somonov to nine years of imprisonment in a common-security penal colony. Each of them was also sentenced to a fine of one million roubles and deprived of military ranks. Besides, the Court granted the claim of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of the Russian Federation to oblige all three defendants to cover the material damage in the amount of 471.6 million roubles.
