Forum calls on students of Armenia to fight for recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh

Participants of the all-Armenian student forum have called on students of Armenian higher educational institutions to unite around the national idea and participate in the process of international recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh.

The student forum in honour of the 30th anniversary of the Karabakh movement was held in Stepanakert from April 12 to 14. The event involved about 140 students from Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as from Russia, Transnistria, South Ossetia, and Abkhazia, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The international status of Nagorno-Karabakh is not settled. The UN does not recognize it as an independent state and insists on the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

At a meeting with students, Ashot Gulyan, Speaker of the Nagorno-Karabakh Parliament, has stated that the Karabakh movement helped the people of Armenia to acquire identity and restore centuries-old traditions.

"And in the matter, we have undoubtedly made progress, since today, we have the Republic of Armenia, which gained independence, and the liberated and developing Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh)," Ashot Gulyan noted.
