UFC champion Nurmagomedov calls on Putin to stand up for Magomedov
Khabib Nurmagomedov, a Dagestani fighter, who has won today the title of UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) champion, has called on Putin to help the arrested businessman Ziyavudin Magomedov. With Khabib's support, the petition demanding an impartial investigation into the Magomedov's case has gathered 8088 signatures.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since March 31, Ziyavudin Magomedov, the head of the board of directors of the "Summa" Group of Companies, and his brother are kept in custody in Moscow on suspicion of creating a criminal community and a theft of 2.5 billion roubles.
After his victory in the title fight, Khabib Nurmagomedov has appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin in connection with the arrest of his sponsor Ziyavudin Magomedov, who had created Khabib's mixed martial arts (MMA) team named "Eagles".
"Now, Ziyavudin Magomedov, a co-owner of our team, is in a difficult situation; he helped very much me and other Russian athletes. He has problems, but I want him to know that we, athletes, pray for him. I hope that our national leader Vladimir Putin will help him," the edition "Sports.ru" quotes Nurmagomedov saying after the fight.
As of 2:50 p.m. Moscow time today, the above petition demanding "an open and impartial examination of Ziyavudin Magomedov's case," posted on the "Change.org" website, was signed by 8088 people. Earlier, Khabib Nurmagomedov placed a link to this petition in the heading of his Instagram profile, urging his fans to sign it.
