Volgograd: Jews celebrate Pesach at background of anti-Semitic attacks

In Volgograd, at the Jewish community centre, about 80 people celebrated the beginning of Pesach, one of the main holidays for the Jews. The authorities of Volgograd ignore the anti-Semitic attacks of local political and public figures, claim members of the Jewish community interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot".

Pesach is a holiday celebrated by the Jewish people in honour of the Exodus of the Jews from Egyptian slavery.

Yael Ioffe, Chairman of the Council of the Volgograd Jewish Community Centre, has noted that the Jewish community continues to face anti-Semitism in Volgograd. One such incident occurred several days before the International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27.

On January 21, one of the members of the Public Chamber for the Volgograd Region posted in Facebook a comment with anti-Semitic remarks and bad words.

The problem of anti-Semitism is hushed up in Volgograd, believes journalist Yefim Shusterman, a former delegate.

He has noted that "the Jewish community actively participates in the social life of the region and receives grants," but does not feel enough moral support.
