Resident of Krasnodar complains about torture to rights defenders

Since the spring of 2017, Aram Gambaryan, a resident of Krasnodar, cannot achieve the start of inquiry on his application about a kidnapping and torture, the Committee against Torture (CAT) has stated today.

Mr Gambaryan appealed to the lawyers of the CAT's Krasnodar branch on May 30, 2017, and told that on March 21, 2017, his car was blocked by two cars in the street; several armed men in masks jumped out of the cars, handcuffed him and thrown him into a minivan, the CAT has reported today.

According to his version, the kidnappers, who introduced themselves as law enforcers, beat him up in the minivan, then, took him to the forest, where continued the beatings. "They pulled off my trousers and underwear; a man sat down on my chest and began asking questions. Besides, all the time they poured water on my face, therefore, I couldn't speak and gasped," the CAT's press release, received today by the "Caucasian Knot", quotes Aram Gambaryan's words.

The man also told rights defenders that he was tortured with an electric shocker; they threatened to shot him dead and shot from a pistol near his ear. All this time, they demanded from him to give evidence on the attempt on a local entrepreneur.

According to Gambaryan, after torture, he was forced to sign an interrogation protocol with the explanations that they had demanded from him.
