Yuri Chaika notes houses of Dagestani officials too late, journalists believe

The statement voiced by General Prosecutor Yuri Chaika about houses of officials in Dagestan located on the Caspian Sea coast was preceded by a long silence of the Prosecutor's Office on the issue. Meanwhile, the information about those houses was available to the public long ago, said journalists interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 10, during his visit to Dagestan, General Prosecutor Yuri Chaika instructed his subordinates to verify the expenses of the Dagestani officials and the legality of construction of their houses.

On February 5, Abdusamad Gamidov, acting Prime Minister of Dagestan, his deputies Shamil Isaev and Radjudin Yusufov, as well as Shakhabas Shakhov, former Dagestani Minister for Public Education and Science, were detained. On the same day, the government of Dagestan resigned. Investigators have released a video, which shows numerous luxury goods inside the houses of the Dagestani officials.

The information about the Dagestani officials possessing houses on the coast of the Caspian Sea has been known earlier, and there are "a lot" of such houses, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Gadjimurad Sagitov, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Novoe Delo".

"That's very good if there are such 'palaces' and they belong to businessmen not affiliated with the authorities and budget money, to businessmen engaged in real businesses. Meanwhile, the houses mainly belong to officials who declare their minimal incomes. It is not difficult to calculate their real income, given the market value of the land plots on which their houses are located," Gadjimurad Sagitov said.

According to him, till recent statements, the Prosecutor's Office kept silence about such facts, and now prosecutors are to answer the questions that the public asks the supervisory authorities.
